Parties at loggerheads over dissolution or reshuffling of cabinet

Ekantipur KATHMANDU, MAY 03 –

A day after the parties agreed to form a new unity government, they stand divided whether the new government would be through dissolution of the cabinet or its reshuffling.

Minister for Information and Communications Raj Kishor Yadav said that the Cabinet will not be dissolved but rather be reshuffled to induct CPN-UML and Nepali Congress in the government.

Emerging from talks between the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and UCPN (Maoist) at Baluwatar on Thursday, Minister Yadav claimed that there were no decisions made regarding the dissolution of the Cabinet as disseminated by the media. “The present government will continue and promulgate the constitution by May 27,” said Yadav.

After several ups and downs in top-level negotiations, major political parties on Wednesday finally agreed to dissolve the current Cabinet and form a new national unity government under Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai’s leadership.
