Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' replies Supreme Court on contempt of court

KATHMANDU, APRIL 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Finance Minister Baburam Bhattarai told the Supreme Court on Thursday through their separate written statements that they had done nothing which would be tantamount to contempt of court.

The replies came in response to apex court show-cause notice issued on April 10 responding to a contempt of court filed against them for publicly criticizing the Supreme Court and its decisions on government-Nepal Army row over retirement of eight army generals.

However, the duo has also made it clear that the reaction was a normal activity of the people. While claiming that the writ was prejudiced, they have also stated that their party -- Unified CPN (Maoist) -- had no policy and direction whatsoever to contempt the court.

On April 8 one Murari Kumar Sharma had moved the court against senior Maoist leaders citing the Maoist leaders' organized activities such as burning the effigy of Supreme Court Justices and public sloganeering against the judiciary as evidences of the crime. (TKP)
